A North Cumbrian woman has been sentenced for two animal neglect charges and one of failing to surrender to custody.
Jasmine Boothman appeared before magistrates in Carlisle yesterday and admitted causing unnecessary suffering to a pony called Pepsi, a protected animal, at Yearngill Farm in Aspatria between September 9, 2020 and March 21, 2021.
The court heard she failed to act, investigate and address the causes of poor bodily condition and weight loss, which included the provision of adequate dental care and that she knew or ought to have known the impacts of her actions.
Boothman, of Harriston, near Aspatria, also faced a charge of failing to take reasonable steps to ensure Pepsi’s needs were met and failed to meet its need for adequate care and supervision on or before March 20 last year.
She admitted both offences having previously pleaded not guilty.
The 20-year-old also admitted breaching her bail conditions after she failed to surrender to custody.
Boothman was ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work, was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £95, was told to pay costs of £500 and was banned from keeping equines for life.
No application for the termination of the order may be made within the next five years.
