Cumbria’s high street businesses post more than 14,000 times a day on social media, new research has found.
The analysis of online activity during the second half of 2021 was carried out by social media specialists Maybe Tech.
It said it meant the county was in fourth place in a top 10 of the country, following Surry, Manchester and London.
It said there were around 28,000 high street businesses in Cumbria with an online presence and around 6,300 use social media.
Gerard Richardson MBE, who runs Richardsons of Whitehaven, said: “We use Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram every day by posting different products with direct links to our website and we get a sale about 90 per cent of the time. We tend to find alternating between product shots and videos inside the shop gets the best results.
“The best example of a specific upturn would be in November 2021. We had been out of stock of our key product from New Zealand due to the shipping container issues, it finally came in and we posted it on social media with the result of an increase of over 200 per cent in turnover for a few days afterwards.
“LinkedIn is an increasingly good way to promote as many companies allow their staff to have that open at work, but Facebook is better for active short term promotions.”
