Workington Reds hope it will be third time lucky when they finally get round to playing at Bootle.
Twice before their fixture has been postponed late in proceedings. A waterlogged pitch was the first reason, a verdict announced on the morning of the game.
Then for the rearrangement the Reds team had actually set off when word came though for them to turn back – there was a tear in the artificial surface.
Now they will try again on Tuesday April 5, their second mid-week game in just over a fortnight as pressure builds to the end of the season.
Reds are at Ramsbottom this Tuesday and a fortnight later will travel to Bootle with manager Chris Willcock looking to regain leadership of the NPL West Division.
It’s building into a thrilling finish to the season with Reds, Warrington Rylands, Marine and Leek all in contention for automatic promotion. Those that miss out are already guaranteed a play-off place.
Willcock said: “We are completely focused on reaching our aim of winning the League. We know what we have to do and although these postponements and re-arrangements haven’t helped us we intend to get through them and regain top spot.
“Fingers crossed we are going to have virtually a full squad for the final run-in, something we haven’t had for the vast majority of the season.”
The one notable absentee will be Charlie Bowman, now recovering at home after a serious accident at work.
