Staff and students at Lakes College have shown their support for those affected by the war in Ukraine by organising a day of fundraising.
They raised £607.70, which will be donated to the Disasters Emergency Committee, an organisation that brings together 15 of the UK’s leading aid charities to raise funds quickly when there is a crisis overseas.
College principal Chris Nattress said: “It really was a fantastic day here at the college.
“This cause has resonated with us all and I was very impressed by what our students and staff achieved by working together.
“Thanks to everyone’s imagination and efforts we have managed to raise a significant sum in support of a very important cause.”
Fundraisers on the day included cake sales, prize draws, face painting and manicures, and there was even a staff vs student football match, which the staff won after an entertaining and competitive game.
Beauty therapy tutor Kate Johnstone said: “Our beauty therapy students were really excited to be involved in the event.
“They loved the nail and face painting; it gave them the chance to show off everything they have learnt on the course. The stall was always busy and it was lovely raising money for a great cause.”
