The Holmen Iggesund Cumberland League’s new-look First Division got underway with the first three fixtures of the season.

Tightest game was at Maryport where the home side just edged out Aspatria 20-18.

They had led 12-6 at half-time and it was even closer at the end of the 80 minutes.

Luke McKnight, Liam Anderson and Luke Baker scored the Maryport tries and there were four goals from Josh Patterson (3) and Blake Miller.

Aspatria matched their hosts try for try through Mark Irwin, Jack Wilson and Luke Crossman with Rocco Okesene supplying three conversions.

There was a good game under the Gillfoot lights with Egremont A overcoming Seaton A 28 14 after they had trailed 6-0 at the break.

The Egremont tries were scored by Jordan Baird, Lennox Hunter, Dan Telford, Nathan Preston and  Jensen Burney. Hunter also landed three goals and Lee Rogers kicked one.

Seaton A replied with tries by Andy McGlasson (2) and Liam Wilson with one conversion from Mark Walker.

In the third game Ellenborough A beat Hensingham A 48-10, having virtually assured themselves of the points by half-time when they led 30-4.

Logan Potter (2), John Todd (2), Jonty Hill (2), Jordan Ostle and Kian Dempsey scored the Elbra tries with Brett Stevenson landing eight goals.

Hensingham A kept going and were rewarded with tries from Jack Kellett and Ryan Corlett

There was one conversion by Kellett.

There was one game in the Premier Division which hosts Distington dedicated to the late Denis Armstrong and held a minute’s applause before kick-off against Lowca.

Denis would definitely have approved of the performance as Distington swept aside Lowca 62-4.

Distington scored 12 tries, seven of which were converted by Scott George. Matthew Shepherd scored Lowca’s sole try.

Touching down for Distington were Phil Lister (3), Aiden Worthington (2), Scott Rooke (2), Jack Speight (2), Jack Penrice, Tyrone Dalton and George.
