Wath Brow Hornets put up an excellent effort in defeat against Hunslet ARLFC, one of the best teams in the National League’s Premier Division.
After almost an hour Hunslet held a 22-0 lead but a young Wath Brow side, showing several changes because of a number of absences, forced their way back into the contest.
They gave their third-in-the-table visitors a fright and with just a little bit of luck could have got closer than the final 22-12 scoreline.
Hunslet had set up their lead with four tries, three of which were converted but the last quarter belonged to the Hornets.

Prop forward Connor Molyneux had an exceptional game for the Brow and he scored both the tries, which were converted by Sam Curwen.
You can hear a proud coach Ian Rooney giving his reflections on the game below:
In Division One there were mixed results for Kells and Egremont on a sweltering day for all playing sport.

Kells were clear cut winners by 40-14 at bottom side Oldham St Annes but Egremont gave their poorest display of the season in going under 40-18 at home to Shaw Cross Sharks.

They never looked back after Tyce Walmsley went over in the second minute and the conversion by Harley Nelson was the first of six he put over during the game.

Walmsley went on to add a second try while Jacob Hodgson also notched a double and they were followed over by Aaron Burns, Dan Grears and Ryan Starkie.
Egremont coach Danny Barker was particularly disappointed with his side’s performance in the heavy home defeat by Shaw Cross Sharks – one which he labelled the poorest so far.
It had been 16-0 at half-time but there was an improvement and they got it back to 22-12 in the third quarter of the game.
But the Dewsbury side pulled clear and Lachlan McDowell’s second try, the last score of the game, converted by Joe Lewis was too little too late.
Jack Pae scored the other Egremont try.
Disappointed coach Danny Barker gives his views below on the game:
