Stand-out performer on Saturday in the Cumbria League’s T20 competition was Furness opener Samson Storey.
The 22-year-old Storey hit 80 off 40 balls against Dalton before following-up with a match-winning 102no which helped his side beat Millom.
Furness will join Cockermouth and Workington at finals day but Storey won’t be there, nor will he be there to help his side retain the Premier Division title.
Next week he will be heading for Melbourne to rejoin the Northcote club who start preparing for the new season at the end of the month.
It’s his fourth year of playing Down Under, his second with Northcote, and it might just be down to the Aussies that’s he’s now a free-scoring batsman.
When he first joined Furness from his local club Ulverston he was recruited as an opening pace bowler.
But when he was in Australia he suffered an injury that restricted his bowling and he began to concentrate on his batting.
“There are some good coaches and players with the Northcote club and I really enjoyed my time with them so I’m looking forward to going back.
“The season doesn’t start until October but they are preparing early,” he says.
Cumbria Crack’s John Walsh caught up with Samson and they chatted about his career so far, those T20 innings and his plans for Australia. You can hear their chat below:
