Cockermouth Titans’ debut in the Holmen Iggesund Cumberland ARL Premier Division lasted just 44 minutes.
Sadly, with the Titans 12-10 ahead against Wath Brow A, the game had to be abandoned because of a bad injury.
Seventeen-year-old Kian Ruddy of Wath Brow suffered a dislocated knee, and although the first aid and physio teams from the two clubs did a great job, there was still the need for an ambulance which was seriously delayed.
The right call was made to call off the game and it will have to be re-played later in the season.
The Hornets had gone in front with a try by Jack Casey which was converted by Jenson Olstrom.
The Titans, however, roared ahead with a brace of tries from ex-Workington Town winger John Patrick, both converted off the touchline by Jack Clark.
Jamie McCallister scored Wath Brow’s second try, but it went unconverted and Cockermouth held their narrow lead at the break.
Sadly the serious injury came early in the second-half.
Distington have started like a train in the Premier Division and their latest win was a convincing 52-14 success against Maryport.
They had the points wrapped-up by half-time when they led 32-0 and it’s to Maryport’s credit that they only lost the second-half 20-14.
The Distington tries were scored by Kieran Worthington (3), Phil lister (2), Ryan Hodgson Jamie Friel, Liam McNicholas Kelvin Lynch and Logan Kilgour.
Worthington put over six conversions.
For Maryport there were tries by Atlee Skillen, Luke Baker and Grant Underwood with one conversion from Blake Miller.
Rather sadly two games were postponed. Lowca were unable to field a team for the game with Ellenborough while Aspatria were also short on numbers and had to call-off their game with Glasson.
A game had already been lost on Friday night when Cockermouth A had to pull-out of their game with Hensingham A.
There were two A team games in the First Division on Friday night and one was an absolute cracker.
Kells A led at Egremont A 16-10 at the break and eventually just held on 22-20 to take the points.
Peter Bewsher (2), Mawson Webster and Owen Runeckles scored the Egremont tries with a conversion each by, John Paul Brocklebank and Billy Thompson.
Kells A won it with tries from Bailey Morton (2), Harley Nelson and Dan Starkie. Man of the match Starkie added three goals.
The other Division One game was more clear-cut with Ellenborough A beating Seaton A 36-0.
A perfectly symmetrical performance, with 18 points in each half, Ellenborough’s tries came from Jordan Ostle (2), Owen Hoyles, Rhys Burr, Leon Ackerley and Brett Stevenson. There were also six goals from Stevenson.
