West Cumbrian legend Gary McKee will celebrate his 100th marathon in 2022 by launching a new beer named in his honour.
Gary, of Cleator Moor, is undertaking 365 marathons in 365 days for charity and April 10 will be his 100th run.
Ennerdale Craft Brewery, a long-time supporter of Gary, will launch Marathon Man 365 as he arrives in its yard for a rest stop.
Gary is raising money for Hospice at Home West Cumbria and Macmillan Cancer Support and aims to raise £1 million.
No stranger to marathon challenges, in 2021 he ran 110 marathons in 110 days.
A spokesman for Ennerdale Craft Brewery said: “We at Ennerdale Craft have been in awe of Gary’s efforts for several years now, and have lent our support for each of his marathon challenges by doing what we do best – brewing fantastic beer, and dedicating the profits of that beer to Gary’s chosen charities, and this year is no exception.”
Proceeds of sales of the not-for-profit beer will go to Hospice at Home and Macmillan.
Gary was inspired to fundraise after his father was diagnosed with cancer in 1997. He died from an unrelated illness in 2003, and since then Gary has dedicated most of his time to fundraising for the charities.
Marathon Man 365 will be available in cask and bottles from Sunday April 10. Gary is expected to arrive at the brewery, on Chapel Row, Rowrah, at 10am.
The brewery is encouraging as many people as possible to attend to show their support.
