Volunteer crew from Barrow RNLI launched both lifeboats in the early hours to assist in the search for a missing person at Walney Island.
The call for assistance came through from the regional HM Coastguard base in Holyhead at 1.56am yesterday, April 11.
The information received was that concerns had been raised for the welfare of a person who was believed to be on the west side of Walney Island in the Sandy Gap area.
The crew was paged and the inshore lifeboat, Vision of Tamworth, was launched at 2.15am, with Andy Baxter at the helm, assisted by Saul Tomlin and Adam Cleasby. The all-weather lifeboat, Grace Dixon, was launched at 2.35am under the command of coxswain Jonny Long assisted by a crew of four.
The lifeboats headed for the west side of Walney Island and were well on their way to the scene when they were stood down by the Coastguard as confirmation had been received that the missing person had been located and was safe.
Both lifeboats returned to the boathouse shortly after 3.30am where they were rehoused and made ready for the next launch.
