A man Is due to be sentenced next month for a violent Carlisle house attack on a man who was left with multiple injuries and spent a fortnight in intensive care.
Thirty-year-old Vitalijus Gerve appeared at the city’s crown court earlier today to face one charge.
Lithuanian national Gerve, with the assistance of an interpreter, pleaded guilty to unlawfully and maliciously causing Aurimas Milasevicius grievous bodily harm with intent to do so.
This follows an incident at a house on Fusehill Street in Carlisle on Sunday, May 2 2021. Gerve is said to have launched a drunken daytime attack which involved punches and kicks.
According to the prosecution, the victim suffered serious injuries, required a tracheotomy and spent two weeks in a hospital intensive care unit before being transferred to a ward.
During today’s short court hearing, Gerve spoke to confirm his identity, date of birth, to enter his guilty plea and confirm he could hear the proceedings clearly.
Judge Nicholas Barker heard Gerve was not submitting any formal basis for his plea, and adjourned the case for the preparation of a probation service pre-sentence report.
Judge Barker also directed that an impact statement should be taken from the victim for consideration at the sentencing hearing, which is due to take place on 27th May.
In the meantime Gerve, of no fixed address, was remanded in custody, although ahead of the next hearing, the judge said: “I am going to require the defendant’s attendance in court on that date given the seriousness of the case but also the use of the interpreter.”
