New Balance is celebrating its 40th anniversary in the UK with a short film.
The firm has released a video marking its 40th year in West Cumbria, featuring local people and places, including Flimby Male Voice Choir, who provide the soundtrack.
The worldwide brand set up a factory in Lillyhall in 1982.
Dawn Brankley, New Balance’s senior product manager of Made in UK, said: “Production moved seven miles up the road to a bespoke footwear manufacturing site in Flimby in 1991, where the shoes are proudly made to this day.
“Our rich back catalogue enables us to draw inspiration to create quality new shoes which are coveted world over. Forty years on we still have a great team of people that are proud to make our shoes and pride themselves on quality.”
New Balance is also launching the special-edition Flimby Catalogue pack as part of its celebrations.
The firm said: “Flimby is special. There aren’t too many occasions when the likes of New York, Tokyo, and London are eagerly awaiting the latest happenings in a village of less than 2,000 residents of the coast of the Irish Sea, but that’s the power of true quality. Since 1982, the technological innovation and meticulous craftsmanship synonymous with New Balance has been expressed at the highest levels by three simple words: ’made in England.’”
