A woman has appeared in court accused of assaulting police officers by biting and kicking after being arrested.

Courtney Kirkbride, 24, faces three charges arising from incidents in West Cumbria on April 30.

All allege assault by beating of different emergency workers — a male PC at Whitehaven and two female PCs at Workington.

Prosecutor Pam Fee said it was alleged that Kirkbride, following her arrest, had kicked one officer to the body.

In custody, it was alleged, she had then kicked out at police and bitten one officer.

During a short hearing at Workington Magistrates’ Court, Kirkbride did not enter pleas to any of the charges she faces.

She opted to have her case heard at Carlisle Crown Court, and is next due to appear there on June 14.

In the meantime Kirkbride, of Latrigg Road, Whitehaven, was granted unconditional bail.
