A celebratory tea party for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee will take place at Distington Crematorium’s Walled Garden next month.

People can come along to the garden between 10am and 2pm on June 4 to enjoy sandwiches, cakes, scones and more.

This event is being hosted by Copeland Borough Council’s bereavement services and parks and open spaces teams as part of their volunteering programme to restore the Victorian garden.

Alongside the tea party refreshments, visitors are invited to plant seeds and there will be an oak tree planting ceremony to mark the occasion.

Councillor Andy Pratt, Copeland’s portfolio holder for bereavement services, said: “This is a great way to mark this historic event – while honouring all the hard work our volunteers have put in so far to transform the garden.”

Copeland Borough Council’s bereavement services team are now looking for volunteers to help at the walled garden during the weekdays, as well as the first Saturday of each month.

Contact the team at distingtonhalladmin@copeland.gov.uk to find out more and register your interest in attending the Jubilee tea party or one of our regular volunteer sessions.

Residents can find resources online to help organise their own event to celebrate the Jubilee at www.platinumjubilee.gov.uk/toolkit

If people have not applied for a street party road closure, but would still like to celebrate without closing the road, they can read how to do so safely at www.streetparty.org.uk/guide/street-meet
