Former Cumbrian bowler Richard Gleeson earned Lancashire a point with a dramatic final over in the Rose T20 against Yorkshire last night.
Gleeson was tasked with delivering the final over as Yorkshire needed to score 13 to beat their great rivals.
He wasn’t helped by bowling a no-ball and coming to the final delivery in-form Harry Brook, on 72, was facing just needing one run to win the game.
But Gleeson came up trumps for his side, sending down a yorker which trapped Brook leg before and a thrilling contest finished as a tie.
Gleeson played 36 times for Cumbria between 2010 and 2015 and took 81 Minor Counties wickets, as well as 14 in one-day games. It earned him a pro contract with Northants. He had a starring role in their T20 Blast title-winning season.
Since his move to Lancashire he struggled with a stress facture of the back and took the option of signing a white-ball only contract.

Consequently he took the opportunity to have a run-out in two of Cumbria’s fixtures (two games in each) and was able to bowl 16 overs to test his fitness.
Cumbria president Eric Carter said: “Richard has always kept in touch with Gary Pratt and myself all the time he has played first class cricket.
“He approached Lancashire and asked if it would be ok with them to have a run out with Cumbria in the National Counties T20 competition.
“They agreed so that is how his Cumbria return was set up.”
