There were lots of smiles in the children’s races at Carlisle Cycle Circuit on Thursday night and none bigger than that worn by young Parker Blain.
He was smiling ear to ear when he won the Under-8s boys in his first ever bike race.
Skye Stewart continued her winning streak in the Under-8s girls as did Mieke Van Schelven and David McIntyre in the Under-10s.
With all the Under-14s and Under-16s away, racing elsewhere or on holiday, the Under-12s had the circuit to themselves in the second race this week so they took part in a bonus event – a 1km time trial – before the main race.
The winners were Wesley van Schelven and Imogen Watkins both from the west of the county.
The adult race had a mix of local riders and visitors and the final podium reflected that.
The winner was local rider Alex Foster riding for Wolf Cycles who spent most of the race on the front and took a convincing win, with second place going to North East rider Thomas Collin of Muckle CC who battled hard.
The podium was completed by Harry Johnston from Dumfries who also rode strongly.
The rest of the field finished a lap behind the leading trio but there was another impressive performance from Ryan Johnston, of Wolf Cycles, who finished in fourth, riding the fastest lap of the night in the process.
He completed the 1km lap in 1 minute 17.4 seconds, a very creditable time especially given the very strong headwind in the back straight all night.
