Workington Comets number one Jonas Jeppesen has been released by Premiership newcomers Northampton Foxes.
The Dane was brought in by the Foxes as a short-term replacement for Slovenian star Matej Zagar when he suffered a broken ankle when he crashed out of the Foxes’ fourth meeting of the season at Belle Vue on May 4.
Northampton will now welcome back Zagar for their next ROWE Motor Oil Premiership fixture at King’s Lynn on Monday, July 6.
The former World No.5 has been sidelined for two months and has so far made just one appearance at Northampton International Shaleway, but he will be back for the trip to the Adrian Flux Arena and then the big home clash with Belle Vue on Thursday, July 9.
Jeppesen, who came in as Zagar’s replacement, has been released from the team following Thursday’s match at Leicester when the Foxes lost 49-41.
Jeppesen scored seven after winning the reserves race when Comets team-mate Drew Kemp, riding for the Lions had to retire before finishing the meeting with five points and a bonus.
The other effect of the Northampton change is that Workington skipper Troy Batchelor, who produced his best display of the season Leicester, now drops to reserve.
Riding at number four Batchelor finished with nine points and a bonus with ex-Comet Nicolai Klindt (10) their top scorer.
Meanwhile Northampton manager manager Chris Adams said: “It’s good to have Matej back, he is fully fit now and will be riding in Poland on Sunday and he’ll then be back for us on Monday at King’s Lynn.
“The door is still open for Jonas. He did a good job at Leicester on Thursday, and there are no hard feelings.
“He knew what he was coming in for and what it entailed, and it’s just unfortunate for him that we have to let him go to make room for Matej to come back.”
