Furness cricket Robin Dunn Memorial Trophy winners 2021

The 2022 Robin Dunn Memorial T20 competition gets underway this week with five games to launch the series.

All 12 Premier Division clubs have contested the competition but this time Lindal Moor, relegated to the First Division after last season, are taking the place of Cleator.

A Cleator spokesman said: “Unfortunately after last season it just isn’t viable at the moment for us to participate due to player availability.

“We did our best last year but it was mainly kids playing so we’ve stepped out for a year and will re-evaluate next season.”

It means the South section will have five teams taking part while the west group only has three.

There’s a tasty looking clash in the North section to get the competition started on Thursday night when Keswick entertain Carlisle. The following night sees Wigton visiting Cockermouth.

The only game in the West section is on Friday night at Gillfoot when Egremont entertain Workington.

Two games are scheduled for the South where Millom host Dalton on Thursday and Haverigg entertain Lindal Moor on the Friday.

The 2021 winners Furness were completing a League and Cup double last season when they beat Workington in the T20 final. Workington had denied them the treble by beating them in the final of the Higson Cup.
