New owners of a Carlisle care home have been praised by the industry watchdog.
Blackwell Vale was taken over by Mariposa Care in March. The home has been renamed Riverwell Beck and following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission, has been rated as good overall.
The new owner has almost completed a refurbishment of the two-storey home on Durdar Road.
Inspectors said: “The home was clean and comfortable. At the time of this inspection, the provider had started a renovation and refurbishment programme in the home. This had been well-planned to cause minimal disruption and to make sure people and staff remained safe during this work.”
Work on the revamp, which will include a new hair salon, is set to be completed next month.
Inspectors, who spoke to 11 residents, 11 staff and 10 family members, said the home was safe, caring, well-led and effective, with enough staff. They said workers were friendly and engaging.
Wendy Carruthers, home manager, said: “We are so proud to have received such a positive inspection report that acknowledges the improvements which have and continue to be made to our home. Our CQC report has come at a very exciting time for us, as we move towards the completion of our refurbishment and look forward to starting our next chapter in summer with a new name.”
Riverwell Beck was chosen to reflect its location near Upperby Park, within which the Wire Mire Beck runs through to meet the nearby River Caldew.
