The search has begun for the chief executives to lead Cumbria’s new councils – described as a once in a generation opportunity.
Cumberland Council and Westmorland and Furness Council will come into being from April 1 next year, replacing the existing district and county councils.
Councillors were elected at the local elections in May and they now belong to shadow authorities, which will prepare for the transition before they take over.
New chief executives are needed to lead both councils, and they will “be encouraged to shape public services for the better, build on the best and transform public services for the future”.
Mark Fryer, leader of the Cumberland Council shadow authority, said: “We are looking for an inspirational leader, brimming with energy who is committed to driving forward positive change for the area, delivering quality services that will make a real difference to people’s lives.”
Jonathan Brook, leader of he Westmorland and Furness Council shadow authority, added: “This is a unique, once in a generation opportunity, to shape and lead a brand-new council. An ambitious council that will shape public services for the better, building on the best and transforming public services for the future.”
