More than 30,000 people are opposing plans to create a tourism attraction at a Lake District quarry.
Burlington Stone revealed that it wanted to set up an immersive and educational attraction at Elterwater Quarry, including a rollercoaster-type ride and high ropes.
Its plans drew immediate objections from people who said it would cause traffic chaos and claimed it would turn the Lake District into a theme park.
Zip Off, which previously campaigned against plans for zipwires at Thirlmere, set up the online petition against the plans.
No planning application has yet been lodged but the proposals are in development.
Protestors said: “Langdale is the jewel in the crown of the Lake District, and its natural beauty, landscapes, traditions, and tranquillity attract tourists and locals alike. It is not a suitable location for theme park rides, and there’s no accommodation for their staff.”
