People are invited to Feel the Blues in West Cumbria next month at an extra special gig.

Feel the Blues is organised by a team including Graeme McGrory, whose partner Ann Westcott has a rare form of dementia.

On July 1, Zoe Glencross from Somethin’ Brewin’ takes music to Dalton Court care home in Cockermouth so Ann and residents can join in. Ethan Thomas, of Checkerboard Lounge, will also perform residents on July 2, before performing at The Huntsman in Cockermouth.

Both artists are also guests at Feel the Blues at Maryport’s Grasslot Club on July 3, with Carlisle band Hardwicke Circus. The gig will start around 2.30pm and finish at 7pm. The venue is accessible to all.

Hardwicke Circus, who have supported Bob Dylan and Neil Young in Hyde Park, are set to appear at Glastonbury this weekend – at the request of Paul McCartney.

They will be joined in Maryport by 10 guests from eight Cumbrian bands in a one-off blues gig and the event will be recorded for a live album.

There will be three sets with breaks for a raffle supporting Alzheimer’s Society. Donations are welcome.

Hardwicke Circus and their guests will perform a selection of blues classics which they have chosen between them.

As a tribute to Maryport’s musical history, Hardwicke Circus will also perform a song by local band Broken English, Maryport Blues.

Feel The BLUES has so far raised over £4,000 since starting in 2015 to bring music to Ann whose mobility problems made it difficult for her to travel to gigs.

Jonny said: “The Hardwickes are honoured to be hosting this gig to support Ann and Alzheimer’s Society. I have seen the positive effect music has on Ann.”

The event on July 3 is sponsored by AW Promotions and Events, Cottage Pie Ltd, Dearham, HMV Carlisle and Workington and The Source Collective.

Ellenvale Coaches and Mike Taylor Printing Services are supporting the event which is in conjunction with Top Table Promotions.

Tickets £5 from www.hardwickecircus.tv/shop as well as:
