Teenager taken to hospital after serious crash on A6 involving van and horse-drawn cart

A teenager was taken to hospital with serious injuries following a collision between a van and a horse-drawn cart.

Emergency services were called at around 10.50pm yesterday to the A6 between Penrith and Milestone House.

It involved a Black Mercedes Vito and a Horse pulling a lightweight cart, called a sulky. The collision occurred on the northbound carriageway.

A 16-year-old boy, who was on the sulky, was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, with serious injuries. They are not believed to be life-threatening. Two other people who were on the sulky suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the Mercedes suffered minor injuries.

Police are appealing for anyone with information, dashcam footage or who witnessed the collision to contact PS 1962 VICKERS or PC 2743 BRUCE by calling 101 or emailing SCIU@cumbria.police.uk. Include the reference, log number 246 of the 30th June with any information reported.
