A Lake District guest house has been given the ultimate accolade by the AA with the top award in its B&B Awards 2022 – with another Cumbrian venue in the top 10.
The awards, now in their 26th year, celebrate the very best of Britain’s B&Bs, in eight categories: Friendliest B&B of the Year; Inn of the Year; Guest Accommodation of the Year for England, Scotland and Wales; and Breakfast of the Year for England, Scotland and Wales.
And it was The Hideaway at Windermere which was named the UK’s friendliest, hitting the top spot for its ‘natural friendliness according to judges.
They said: “Quietly tucked away in a lovely location, this beautiful Victorian Lakeland house is personally run by owners Richard and Lisa. Natural friendliness is The Hideaway’s recipe for success; service is attentive, with all guests being offered a slice of delicious homemade cake on arrival.”

Richard and Lisa Gornall, owners of The Hideaway, said: “Team Hideaway are absolutely delighted to have received the award of The AA Friendliest B&B of the Year 2022.
“We are extremely proud of our amazing team who work so hard and keep smiling each and every day; without them this would not have been possible. We are very grateful to Team Hideaway, our customers and the AA, for their continued support.”

Runner-up was The Edwardene in Keswick.
AA inspectors said: “A pristine guest house tucked away behind Keswick’s busier areas in a peaceful area yet within a few minutes walk of shopping, bars and restaurants. The hosts here provide a warm and welcoming environment and a wonderful breakfast to start the day.
“Bedrooms are attractively decorated, each individually styled and feature deep and comfortable beds and smart, modern bathrooms wit h luxury toiletries. There is a guest lounge with a well stocked honesty bar and a bright and inviting breakfast room.”
