An Eden stately home has been recognised for raising thousands of pounds for charity by opening its garden to the public for the last 30 years.

Askham Hall owners Charles Lowther and Marie-Louisa Raeburn were presented with a sundial to commemorate the anniversary of opening their gardens to the public once a year to raise much needed funds for the National Garden Scheme.

Their mother Caroline Countess of Lonsdale began the tradition in 1991 when Askham Hall was still a private family home, being passionate about the gardens and the charity. It is estimated they have raised around £30,000.

After a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic plans are in place to reinstate the popular summer event next year.

Askham Hall has operated as a business since 2012 and now has 19 bedrooms, a Michelin starrred/ 4 AA rosette restaurant and a wedding barn as well as a Grade II listed terraced gardens available for guests.
