Barrow collected their second win from as many pre-season games when they beat Ashton United 1-0.
The National North side gave the Bluebirds a good test although they never really threatened a solid Barrow defence.
The only goal of the game came in the 15th minute from a Remeao Hutton corner which was flicked on by Niall Canavan for Sam McClelland to finish from close range.
Manager Pete Wild said: “You want tests from opponents when you are playing pre-season games and just like Holker on Saturday they were competitive against us.
“I was disappointed we didn’t make enough of the chances that we created but I’m sure that will improve.
“I am still looking to add to the squad and hope to have another new face in by the weekend and hopefully another early next week.
“That will give us two players in every position and that’s when it’s up to each and every one of them to dhow they deserve to be picked for the first League game.”
There had been some speculation early in the week that Niall Canavan, a January deadline signing by Mark Cooper might be on his way to Hartlepool.
But Wild squashed that rumour by insisting Canavan was going nowhere.
Wild used a different 11 in each half, including three trialists.
Barrow first half: Farman, McClelland, Hutton, Waters, White, Trialist, Gotts, Foley, Warren, Bennett, Canavan.
Barrow second half: Lillis, Taylor, Ellis, Nwabuokei, Gordon, Kay, Trialist, Grayson, Trialist, Ray, Stevens.
