Supporters and players of Workington’s annual mass football game Uppies and Downies raised £8,000 for their chosen charity.
While the no-rules game, played in the town over Easter, has no organisers, it does have a charity committee.
This year, the chosen recipient was the Fire Fighters Charity, which supports fire and rescue personnel in their time of need.
Uppies and Downies supporters held several events for the charity, including a sponsored fire engine pull, sponsored wax, charity nights and collections.
Lynda Williams, Elvin Jarvis and Nutty Shepherd handed over the cash to the charity, which is based at Jubilee House in Penrith, this week.
Lynda said: ” We would like to thank everyone involved who helped raise the money.”
The West Cumbrian town splits in two – Uppies and Downies. Uppies have to get the ball to Workington Hall and Downies have to get it to Workington harbour. the game is won when the ball is hailed – thrown up and caught three times – by the hailer.
Here are a selection of photos from this year’s games.
