
Glasson and Cockermouth had contrasting wins in the mid-week matches in the Holmen Iggesund Cumberland League’s Premier Division.
For while Glasson were edging past Lowca 24-22, Cockermouth were chalking-up a big win, 60-10 at Aspatria.
Glasson had eked-out a 16-10 half time lead against Lowca but the visitors almost got back to parity in the second-half.
Ellis Nixon (2), Adam Lee and Matthew Johnson scored the Glasson tries with Luke Johnson kicking four goals.
The fourth conversion made the difference as Lowca also scored four tries through Paul McNally (2), Dean Haigh and Emerson Allen but could only manage three conversions by Jamie Scott (2) and Keith Campbell.
Joel Baker was Glasson’s man of the match with Greg Smith picking up the award for Lowca.
On Saturday Cockermouth had beaten Aspatria 42-22 at Highfield so there was a really quick turnround when Hornets hosted the return and wdere soundly beaten this time 60-10.
The game was over as a contest at half-time with Cockermouth 40-4 to the good – and the Aspatria try had come a minute before the break from Gary Harrison.
Frazer Murray had helped himself to a first-half hat-trick with tries in the 5th, 14th and 37th minutes while Matthew Irving went over in the 6th and 31st minutes.
Tries from Olly Anderson (19) and Luke Armstrong (21) completed the first-half tally, six of which were converted by Irving.
The scoring rate dropped on the resumption but there were still four tries for Alex Barton (48), Jamie Lightfoot (54), Sam Wilson (60) and Brad Taylor (62), Irving converted another and Joe Beaty also put one over.
Mark Irwin scored a second-half try for Aspatria in the 66th minute and Rocco Okesene put over the conversion.
There was one Division One game inn which Kells A beat Seaton A 28-0, probably even easier than the score suggests.
Kells scored 14 points in each half with Harry Watson going over after two minutes; Keelan Parr crossing after half an hour and Sam Murtagh notching the third five minutes before the break. Dan Starkie converted one.
In the second half Arron Burns scored twice in the 47th and 68th minutes, while Parr added his second and Starkie landed one conversion.
Daniel Joyce was the Kells man of the match with Brett Symes picking-up the award for Seaton.
