The front runners in the Derwent Valley Asbestos Removals & Demolition Services summer league either consolidated or extended their leads in the respective divisions.

In the second tier, Seaton’s Stephen Jackson extended his lead to four points despite his first league defeat of the season to rival Chris Hunter of Workington.

Hunter came through 3-2 in a low-scoring encounter in the final and deciding frame. Hunter moves up to third with the addition of a solid 5-0 league defeat of Workington’s Geoff Smith.

Darren Lawson also moves up one place to second with a particularly useful 4-1 win over Seaton’s Paul Smith. A 39 break from the Workington player in the fourth frame secured his highest break of the season and the win.

Workington’s Dave Chapman is beginning to show signs of his previous form as he defeated Whitehaven’s Richard Kirkham 4-1.

Kirkham took a consolation final frame to avoid the whitewash and both players are in the bottom half of the DVARD Division Two table.

In the top flight, Workington’s Peter O’Hagan notched up breaks of 31 and 36 in the opening and third frames respectively on his way to a 4-1 win over fellow town player Clive Lister. Lister claimed a black ball fourth to claw back a point.

Defending champion Kevin Basnett maintained the pressure through matching that result over the in-form Sal Cakmak from Maryport. The best break came in the opener with a 40 from Basnett.

Cakmak briefly rallied taking the third frame to narrow Basnett’s lead, but two competitively fought final frames both went the way of the Seaton player.

Workington’s Mark Tunstall jumps three places to third as he overcame the challenge of premier competitor Shane Evitts from Maryport. Tunstall recorded a 34 break in the fourth to secure the win and completed the tie, taking the final frame for a precious 4-1 victory.

Meanwhile in the DVARD knockout group stages Kevin Kirkham overcame the challenge of Chapman 3-2 with breaks of 31 and 34 to boot. Kirkham leads the way in group B with three ties still to play.

Next week sees a return to the DVARD knockout for round 4 of the group qualifiers.
