An art exhibition bringing together some of the biggest names in contemporary art is coming to Kendal.

‘High on Hope’ has been created as a memorial for the influential artist Gerard Hemsworth, who died in 2021.

It brings together a selection of Hemsworth’s canvases alongside the work of eight other artists whom he taught on the Fine Art Master’s programme at Goldsmiths College, London, in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

The exhibition has been created by painter Rebecca Scott, and focuses on artists whose work she sees as resonating with Hemsworth’s interest in figurative and representational painting.

The event brings together artists, Mark Fairnington, Gerard Hemsworth, Roy Holt, Rebecca Scott, Bob & Roberta Smith, Michael Stubbs, Jessica Voorsanger, Mark Wallinger and Suzy Willey.

The exhibition will be held at Cross Lane Projects in Kendal and will open on July 23 and close on September 24.
