It was a day for the favourites and in-form dogs when the HTA went back to Redmain for their trail following the meeting there on Tuesday.
Caroline Graham’s Hunter’s Flame came from third place on the finish to pip Stuart Jeynes’ Forlorn Spring by half a length in the seniors.
She is now only one point behind Duchess Ava who heads the Senior Championship table.
There was another exciting finish in the puppy trail with 13 entries and three of them came onto the finish with a lead over the others. Brian and Joy Lister’s Lady Million was in front but as they got closer to the line she tired and it was the Napier family’s Foxparke Beep Beep who got up to win by a length from the other winner on Tuesday night, Thorn Thunder owned by Martin and Molly Burrows.
It was more of an open race in the Maidens with hounds attracting good odds from the bookmakers but there was a surprise winner when Tania Satterthwaite’s hound Trev won by almost four lengths from second placed Foxparke Hooligan.
The final race of the day was for the open restricted hounds and it went to Sophie Steele’s double champion Miterdale Shadow who held on from a fast-finishing Denton Shamrock owned by Lee Wall.
The dogs ran well even though it was hot, and a cool breeze certainly helped.
