Kendal Town had an encouraging 2-0 home win over a mixed Fleetwood side of Under-18s and Under-23s.
A goal in each half earned Jimmy Marshall’s side the victory as they move to within 10 days of their first North West Counties fixture.
Although the Fleetwood side dominated possession for a large part of the first half they were mostly unable to cause problems for the home defence.
Sean Sailor was closest for Kendal on ten minutes when he rose to a corner but headed over.
It was Sailor, though, who helped create the opening goal ten minutes later. He burst away down the wing and a great pull-back was finished off by Scott McDonald.
Fleetwood went closest to scoring on 43 minutes but from a free header Kendal defender Martin Grundy did well to clear over the bar.
The second goal came on 64 minutes and Tom Kilifin, who had just come on as a substitute, fired home with virtually his first touch.
Rob Wilson was influential for Kendal in the middle of the park and once he fired in a dangerous low cross but nobody could get on the end of it.
Near the end he played in Kilifin but the forward was denied by the Fleetwood keeper who saved at the second attempt.
Kendal complete their preparations on Saturday at home to Workington before starting the League programme a week later at Vauxhall Motors.
