Extreme heat impacts hound trailing

The hot weather has had a major impact on the two HTA meetings at Kirkstone and Cold Fell.

For Tuesday’s trails at Kirkstone enthusiasts had been put off by the heat even though the start time had been put back and the trail altered so that it was shorter.

As a consequence there were only three entries for the senior trail. All three got round in what was an average time for a senior hounds race.

Winterfell came home first for Tom, Sarah and Ryan Bell who had travelled up from Yorkshire.

In second spot was the in-form Miterdale Duchess with Eagle Star completing the result.

There were only two entries for the pups and just one of them got round. Rex the Rocket proved his worth by winning for Tony and Marlene Irving of Seaton.

The last race for open restricted hounds was cancelled.

The number of competing hounds was much better for last night’s meeting at Cold Fell.

In the senior trail Debbie and Lana McGee’s Apache was on the warpath, storming home to be Roy Laidler’s Kirkhead Rebel who appears to be coming back into form.

Foxparke Beep Beep seems to be running out of her skin at the moment and scored again in the pups when beating James McClelland’s Huntsman’s Rascal.

The Napier kennel nearly had a quick double in the open maidens but Foxparke Shackalackaboomboom finished second behind Tony Jackson’s Kinniside Jacks.

Ian Donaldson’s Huntsman’s Quartz came home in front of Huntsman’s Shadow in the open restricted.

A former senior and puppy champion, now running as a veteran, the Shadow has been picking up tickets in most runs recently.
