Chris Clayton

A Cumbrian lawyer has been promoted at a prominent firm, just a year after he joined.

Chris Clayton has been named an associate at Baines Wilson.

Chris, 35, is an experienced commercial dispute resolution solicitor and a solicitor-advocate who can represent clients in all courts including the High Court, Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.

Originally from Kirkbride, near Carlisle, he went to Nelson Thomlinson School in Wigton and studied history at Hull University before completing a graduate diploma in law and a legal practice course at the University of Law in York.

He joined Baines Wilson from Freeths, a national law firm in Nottingham.

Chris said: “There’s a great variety of work in dispute resolution, which brings a lot of job satisfaction. Not only do you have to understand the legal work, you have to understand the businesses involved. Every day is different.”

Prior to qualifying as a solicitor in 2016, he worked as a costs specialist.

Elizabeth Black, partner – head of dispute resolution and litigation at Baines Wilson, said: “Chris is an extremely capable dispute resolution lawyer and a key part of our team. We recognise the significant contribution he has made to both the business and to supporting our clients and that he is now ready to take the next step in his career.”
