Carlisle Cycling Association’s penultimate race night of the season managed to squeeze three races into the programme.
First off were the Category 4 adults where Daniel Kane of Muckle CC and Gavin Church of Vanelli-Project-Go broke away from the bunch quite early in the race.
It was the Muckle rider riding who proved extremely strong and finished over 17 seconds clear of his rival.
There was a fight for the minor places behind, with Scot Calum Murray completing the podium just ahead of the first local rider Dougie Pratt of Rock to Roll CC.
Junior riders aged 16 and 17 were next on the Circuit next, and this time there was a Cumbrian victory. Dearham’s Jude Davison, who is on great form currently, took the victory ahead of Conal Davidson riding for Spokes Racing Team and The Cycling Academy’s Elijah Kwon.
The evening finished with a slightly different style of race – a handicap race for riders of all categories. Riders were set off in groups at different times according to their licence category, meaning that the highest category racers had almost a complete lap to catch up on the category 4 riders.
This made for some fast and exciting racing. Ultimately it was victory for the category 3 riders who worked well together and managed to hold off the higher category riders.
Liam Scott Douglas of JG Cycles won, just ahead of his team-mate Mark Shaw and Julian Macbride of Kirkley Cycles.
There is no racing at Carlisle next Thursday as many of the riders and officials will be at Ambleside Sports, but the season will conclude the week after, with races for Youth and Adult riders and the Association’s end of season presentations.
This week’s Velo Club Cumbria time trial was cancelled due to a vehicle collision on the course.
