St Mary’s Walk to Remember

A 10-mile sponsored walk for a South Cumbrian hospice is making a return later this year.

This year’s event will take place on September 9.

Mel Dixon, St Mary’s events and challenges manager, said: “This year we are asking our community who means the world to you? And who will you be walking for?

“Each step our supporters take raises vital funds for the hospice, which means we can be here for you and those important to you, when and where you need us, now and in the future.”

The event is sponsored by offshore wind farm developer Ørsted.

Mel added: “Thank you to Ørsted for making the event possible and the hard work of staff, volunteers and local businesses to make the event a success. It is a great chance for people across our community to come together with family, friends, colleagues and even pets for a night of fun, making new memories as you walk and celebrating the lives of the special people you are walking to remember.”

Registration for the event opens from 6pm at Better Leisure Centre in Ulverston, and the official walk launches at 8pm. The 10-mile route includes Swarthmoor, Lindal, Dalton and ends at Furness Academy.

Mel said: “Last year it was so emotional for us all to start to be back together again and this year we want to build on that.

“We can’t wait to welcome everyone back again and introduce the heart-warming experience to those that haven’t taken part before. We are also keen to thank our community: the sponsorship money raised helps us reach more families who need our services. We can’t wait to see you at the walk – sign up today!”

Since 1988, St Mary’s has been welcoming patients and those important to them.

Walk to Remember raises vital funds to support patients now and in the future.

Mel added: “It’s the continued support, kindness and generosity of our community that makes this possible. We look forward to welcoming you on September 9.”
