New venue for Hound Trailing Association

Jonty Moore with Ned’s Gain winner of the pups

The HTA has been suffering of a shortage of venues in recent years so it is good news when a new one is unveiled.

Skalderskew, in the Whitehaven Area, made it’s debut last night when 45 hounds contested the four trails.

Overall it seems to have gone well although numbers for the last two trails were disappointing.

But that was probably more to do with the number of meetings – six in the last seven days – than the terrain.

The highlight of the night was a clash in the 19-strong puppy field of leader Huntsman’s Rebel and nearest challenger Ned’s Gain.In the end it was Ned’s Gain who came out on top to register a 10th win of the season, but still eight behind the table leader.

Ian Donaldson’s Huntsman’s Quartz won the seniors for a second success of the season, beating Glynis and Raymond Farren’s Jenny’s Oracle.

Joy and Brian Lister’s kennel is going well, following-up Lady Million’s win at Lorton on Saturday with another success. Imagine won the open maidens from Foxparke Jog On in a field of seven runners.

Denise Bland’s Huntsman’s Major won the veterans race ahead of General James and Hawkswood.

It’s developing into a great battle for the veterans championship title as Huntsman’s Major and Hawkswood are level with 24 points from General James on 21.

Tucked right in behind is Miterdale Shadow on 18 as he chases a unique treble – puppy, senior and veteran champion.

There are no trails tonight but Cold Fell stages a meeting on Wednesday followed by Ambleside Sports on Thursday.
