Ambleside Sports has always provided the HTA with a great opportunity to showcase their races and this year’s event was as popular as ever with the visiting crowd.

Some holidaymakers were seeing the trails for the first time, to other regular visitors it was a welcome attraction again.

Fiona Dixon, the HTA secretary said: “The Sports was a great success and it’s excellent to have the trails there, so a big thank you to Mike Thornton who was the trail manager for the day.

“The prize money on offer was excellent with a £400 pot for the senior hounds and £200 for the open pups, with a £120 prize pot for the other trails.”

Denise Bland’s Huntsman’s Que won the senior hounds to go joint second in the senior table with six wins, level with Hunter’s Flame and one behind Duchess Ava.

The senior maidens was won by Ron, owned by Tom, Sarah and Ryan Bell from Yorkshire. Ron is in decent form, having a recent fifth at Dubbs Lane, and beat Cuckoo Lane on this occasion.

Although there wasn’t a big field the puppy trail produced an exciting finish.

Only three of the eight runners got round but they all came together on the finish and just a couple of yards separated them at the line.

Rex the Rocket, owned by Tony, Marlene and Connor Irving from Seaton got his head in front to beat Denise Bland’s, Huntsman’s Rally.

Dream Catcher, who has been among the tickets recently, came home in front for Cathy Lister to win the puppy maiden race ahead of another of Denise Bland’s Patterdale hounds Huntsman’s Ruby.

The last race of the day saw the most runners, 16, contesting the open restrict trail and it was another win for the Bland kennel as Huntsman’s Nimrod came home in front of Christine Brownlee’s Manna.
