It’s all systems go again for Upper Eden as they face up to another season in the Cumbria League.
After finishing last season with a 100 per cent unbeaten record, but denied promotion for a second successive time, there was initial despair at the club.
But an insider tells Cumbria Crack: “We have swallowed our disappointment and are coming back fighting! We haven’t lost any players but have gained a few and are looking forward to our pre-season warm-up games.”
The first is against Darlington (both men and women’s games) on Saturday, August 13 but a second the following Saturday against Keswick has been called off as Upper Eden will now play their County Cup game at home to St Benedict’s.
The Cumbria League One will have 13 teams this coming season and they will play each other once. At that point the Leagues will be split into top six and bottom seven with them playing each other home and away for ten and 12 further fixtures.
Hopefully the eventual champions among the top six will be promoted, and likely to be on a North East route.
Upper Eden start with a home fixture in the Cumbria League on September 3 when Hawcoat Park make the trek north from Barrow.
The general feeling is that Upper Eden and Cockermouth will be the main contenders for the title.
