A north Cumbrian 19-year-old has admitted dangerous driving after he was involved in a police chase.
Details of Cub Thomas Mahon’s first brush with the law were outlined at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court today.
Mahon pleaded guilty to dangerous driving following an incident on the B5299 near the city while he was behind the wheel of a Mitsubishi Shogun Sport on July 31.
He was involved in a chase with police in an unmarked patrol vehicle with blue lights activated and sirens sounding. Prosecutor George Shelley told the court: “There is prolonged bad driving involving deliberate disregard for the safety of others whilst being pursued.
Mahon admitted a dangerous driving charge and had no previous convictions. He initially denied being aware of the lights and sirens but was then shown dash-cam footage, prompting him to make admissions and apologise for his actions.
The case was adjourned by magistrates for the preparation of a probation service pre-sentence report. Lawyer Lucy Redshaw, defending, asked magistrates not to impose an interim driving ban.
Mahon had set up his own landscaping company which required him to travel all over the North East, but was requesting extra time to wind the business down and carry out jobs as no other employees held driving licences.
Mahon, of The Green, Houghton, near Carlisle, faces a mandatory ban when he is sentenced. He was granted unconditional bail and is next due to appear in court on September 8.
