A West Cumbrian man jailed in 2016 for raping a woman as she slept has been handed another prison term after flouting a strict order made as part of the original punishment.
Wayne Hilton, now 47, was locked up for eight years by a judge who heard how he had carried out his serious sexual assault at a house in Carlisle during 2015.
His victim had woken to find she was being being raped, and her ordeal continue despite her telling him to stop. It stopped when one of the woman’s friends went into the room to check if she was all right.
She was left dealing with the trauma in the aftermath, receiving help from victim support organisations.
Hilton found himself back in hot water several months ago when he was in a house for at least 12 hours — on a number of occasions — with a child. He had done so without informing police within three days that he had done so, in breach of a court order he remains subject to indefinitely.
Hilton, previously of Maryport and latterly of Main Street, Frizington, admitted breaching the order at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court today. He had since been recalled to custody on licence.
Appearing in court over a video link, Hilton told magistrates: “It is my fault. I 100 per cent hold my hands up. I totally accept what is about to happen.”
He was given a 24-week jail term which will run concurrently to the sentence he is still serving.
The court heard while his licence period will run until February, 2024, Hilton would be entitled to apply for earlier release from custody.
