Experienced second-row forward Danny Langtree has signed a new two-year deal with Barrow Raiders.
The 31-year-old joined from Oldham ahead of the current campaign in which he has been troubled by a hamstring injury early in the season and a torn bicep in May.
But his value to the team has been highlighted following his return to full fitness which has coincided with the Raiders’ excellent run of results, which has secured a play-off spot.
A product of St Helens’ academy system, Langtree has made 13 appearances for the club so far, all starts and the new deal will see him as a Raider until the end of the 2024 season.
After agreeing the contract extension, Langtree told the club website: “I’m happy to have signed a new deal and to be staying at the Raiders. I’m just glad everything’s sorted now, and I can try and finish the season as strongly as possible.
“I’ve enjoyed my first year here! Personally it’s been a bit disappointing with the injuries I’ve had, but with the lads doing so well on the pitch the place has been good to be around.”
Barrow Raiders chairman Steve Neale said: “We are delighted to add Danny to our growing list of retained players. We were always confident of his ability, and although he had a couple of injuries early on in the year, now he is proving himself and is a massive asset to the team.
“It was an easy decision for the coaching staff to ask him to go round again.”
Director of rugby Andy Gaffney added: “He started off really well but has been unlucky with a few injuries. He is back playing now and showing the performances we knew we’d get when we first signed him.
“He is a great lad who always works hard, both at training and away from the club. He will be a very important player going forward for us.”
