A South Cumbria music festival is set to become an annual event after raising over £4,000 for charity.
Hut-Fest in Flookburgh attracted hundreds of music lovers when it was held earlier this month.
The event, on the field next to the village’s Ravenstown Working Men’s Club, was organised by Nathan Bushell, Daniel Asplin, Danielle Lambeth, James Rowlandson and Jonathan Porter.
It will return on Saturday, August 5 2023.
Hut-Fest is a showcase of local musical talent. First on its this year’s bill was Flookburgh Brass Band, followed by vocalist Paul Morris. A DJ set by DJ Paddy warmed up the audience for The Bullets, country band Whisky Getaways, Off Limits and rock band The Underdogs. The festival’s headliner was band Jim Bean. All gave their time for free.
There was also an auction with prizes donated by local people and businesses. One of the most popular lots was a Ravenstown Club darts shirt signed by members of all three of the club’s darts teams. It sold for £400.

There were also donations from Plumgarths, which ran a festival barbecue, and Wraysholme Creamery, which sold ice-creams. Cannons Transport of Kendal donated a wagon to act as a covered stage and there were bucket collections among the audience. The money raised is being shared by Rosemere Cancer Foundation and St Mary’s Hospice, Ulverston – charities chosen by Ravenstown Club members.
Danielle said: “We were hoping for a good event but Hut-Fest surpassed our expectations. We were so busy, the day went by in a blur but the feedback has been so positive, we have already booked next year’s Hut-Fest date.
“We would like to thank everyone who supported Hut-Fest by donating, playing, helping with its organisation and just coming along.”
