A West Cumbrian school is getting ready to welcome its largest intake of new pupils for 20 years next month.
Netherhall School, in Maryport, will have 174 children join year seven and this week, held a summer school for youngsters to help them get used to the transition.
Students enjoyed activities including football, netball, tennis, rounders, basketball, dodgeball, tag rugby, drama, music, art, photography and IT.
Deputy headteacher Mark Bailey said: “I have spoken to a number of our new year seven students and they have told me how much they have enjoyed themselves during the summer school this year.
“They have once again highlighted what a brilliant group of students they are and they are a huge credit to their families, the primary schools they have joined us from who they are representing with distinction, and now as students of Netherhall School.
“The sessions have been incredibly well received by the students and I would like to thank Miss Scott, Miss Adam, Mr Smith, Mr Spencer, Mr Newton, Mrs Stead, Miss Cooper and our Head Boy Ben Lambert for continuing to provide such a brilliant introduction to life at Netherhall School for our new students over the last week.
“I would also like to thank our outstanding canteen staff for the fantastic meals that have again been served this week to both students and staff. Many thanks to our canteen manager Pam Phillips and her team: Helen Needham, Sheree Teasdale, Rachel Reilly, Melissa Gibson, Andrea Hewitt, Tyne Boyle, Sarah Irving, Kath Stephenson, Caroline West and Marie Cuthell.”
