Police have issued a warning to people after video footage of an arrest in Barrow was shared on social media.
A man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly at around 4.10am yesterday on Cavendish Street.
Officers received information that the man had been assaulted prior to his arrest.
The man was taken to Furness General hospital for treatment for injuries not believed to be life-changing, including cuts and bruises.
A complaint against the police has arisen from the arrest, police said.
Police said they were aware of mobile phone footage being shared on social media from the arrest.
A police spokesman said: “Police would ask that the public do not speculate on the circumstances of an incident from footage shared on social media. Additionally, police would remind the public that sharing and commenting on incidents where arrests have been made may have an impact on future legal proceedings.
“Complaints against police are taken incredibly seriously and will be thoroughly investigated. This will include a review of officer’s body worn video footage.”
At 3:35pm yesterday, police received a subsequent report of an assault in a premises on Cavendish Street at around 3.30am. The reported incident involved two men. This incident is being investigated by officers who are following multiple lines of enquiry, Cumbria police added.
