The Whitehaven Classic meeting on Bank Holiday Monday proved a disaster with the first four trails all declared void.
The only one to count was the open restricted in which the Napier family’s Foxparke Jiggly Puff led in the nine runners from Stuart Jeynes’ Forlorn Spring.
HTA secretary Fiona Dixon said: “It was very disappointing, especially given all the hard work people had put in ahead of the event.
“The trail at Bower House hasn’t been run for a few years now so the bracken might have been up which does slow the dogs down.
“This year the bracken has grown particularly high possibly due to warm, wet conditions so this could have been the reason. They weren’t massively over time, possibly less than a couple of minutes but there’s nothing you can do about it when they are.
“It’s very hard when something like this happens because people don’t understand just how much work goes on behind the scenes into putting on trails like these.”
