
Carlisle City have been drawn away to Braithwaite when they start the defence of the County Cup.
Braithwaite are in the Second Division of the Westmorland League but in the 1960s and 1970s were one of the most successful sides in the competition.
Carlisle City completed a double last season by winning the County Cup and the Second Division of the Northern League.
They have started life strongly in Division One, currently lying fourth, but are already out of two knock-out competitions – the FA Cup and the FA Vase.
Wetheriggs, who were beaten by City in last season’s final, start this time with a home tie against West Lancashire League side Whitehaven AFC.
Carlisle United will start at Cleator Moor Celtic, where they were taken to extra time last season in a quarter final tie.
The Celtic side has changed dramatically since then and have a re-shaped, young side under new management of Brian Dawson.
Two of the senior sides in the competition, Workington Reds and Penrith, are among six clubs with byes into the second round.
First round games have to be played on or before October 8 and are: Gosforth v Whitehaven Miners; Eden Thistle v Wigton Harriers; Wetheriggs Utd v Whitehaven AFC; Kirkoswald v Alston Moor; Windscale v Eden Utd; Cleator Moor Celtic v Carlisle Utd; Braithwaite v Carlisle City; Cockermouth v Aspatria; Maryport Athletic v Silloth; Penrith Royal v Unisun Athletic.
