A group of youngsters have created an animated film to help them explore culture and identity.
The film, which will be premiered next month at Brewery Arts in Kendal, builds on their lived experience of growing up in Cumbria if you are not white.
The youngsters were brought together by Anti Racist Cumbria in 2020 to help them connect – for some it was the first time they had met a young person who looked like them.
A spokesman said: “Anti Racist Cumbria quickly realised how passionate the kids were about an anti-racist future with their clear vision for change, and the project organically grew to become as epic as they are.”
Carlisle-based animation studio Plus3k came on board to teach the group, Animated Futures, about animation as an outlet for exploring culture and identity and the result is The Fell We Climb is based on their real-life experiences.
They have released a trailer and the film will have its premiere on October 5 at Brewery Arts.
The spokesman added: “We hope the film will help motivate people across Cumbria and beyond to become actively anti-racist and it is scheduled to be shown across the county at cinemas such as Brewery Arts, Keswick Alhambra, Rosehill Theatre, Kendal Mountain Festival and through the Cine North programme.
“Anti Racist Cumbria will also be providing the film as a free resource with an accompanying lesson plan to all schools in the county.”
