A Cumbrian social enterprise is urging people to come together to help them restore Allerby Community Gardens.
West House’s enterprise Grow West, is hosting a voluntary DIY Day as part of its 25th anniversary and they’re looking for help to restore the gardens as part of the celebrations.
The social enterprise is looking for both loans of specialist equipment and help with tasks such as tidying, clearing, fixing fencing and equipment, painting, general handiwork.
James Cox, CEO of West House said: “Allerby has been providing essential services to the community over this time and some areas of the site are now in need of restoration and repair.
“Grow West has been an integral part of the community and West House so we are calling on local people and businesses to come together and help us spruce up the site to ensure our staff, the people we support and the surrounding community can get the very best from this fantastic social enterprise.
“We hope to get as many people to rally around and join us for a rewarding day filled with community spirit and of course, fun.”
If the restoration goes to plan the enterprise hopes to be able to increase the production of the gardens’ veg boxes, plants and flowers which they sell and deliver to the local community.
West House is a Cumbrian organisation that provides essential training opportunities for young people and adults with learning disabilities in the community. They run three enterprises in the county including Grow West.
The restoration of the gardens will allow the Grow West team to give the people they support knowledge and experience in horticulture whilst helping them to gain confidence and everyday life skills.
The DIY day will take place on October 8 from 10am to 4pm at Allerby Community Gardens.
