Aspatria Rugby Union Club has been recalling the contributions of two former players who have recently died.
Ray Hammil died after being involved in a collision last week near Maryport Golf Club, while Tony Hadden has also died after a lengthy illness.
Club official Barney Clegg said: “The names may not be familiar to current players but supporters of a certain age will remember them both for the contributions they made in a Black Red shirt and their love of our club. Ray and Tony played a part in our history and for this we thank them.”
Ray represented the Black Reds in the late 70s and 80s. After his rugby career he retained a passion for keeping fit, mainly through cycling.
However, he could always be relied upon to turn out after a late phone call. The club said Ray would be fondly remembered for his enthusiasm and good humour and it had sent condolences to his family and friends.
Tony was a hard and skilful back rower, first playing for Aspatria when the club was still based at the Band Hut on Bedford Square, in the early 1970s.
Those who knew him will remember that he was highly intelligent and always good company. A promising career in the Civil Service took him away from Aspatria to London.
On his return Tony took a great interest in the development of junior sides at Bower Park and regularly supported the club from the touchlines.
Unfortunately, ill health took its toll and attendance fell away but never his love for the club
